Crystals To Start Your Collection
It is often assumed that we should deviate towards crystals specifically for our condition or circumstance. A quick google search of “best crystal for anxiety” or “best crystal for a broken heart” will come up with some beautiful recommendations, but something I cannot recommend enough is to find crystals based on how they connect to you.
Over time and many crystals, I have found the more complex the crystal the more difficult it may be to channel its energy. Some crystals can be very stubborn and won’t give you any response if you’re not open and receptive in the way it would like you to. So, by looking at crystals and finding ones that really say “pick me!” you are much more likely to find ones that are helpful to you.
However, having a guide before searching for crystals may be of use. For example, you may wish to start by finding crystals that relate to each colour of the chakras (red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, indigo, violet), maybe you feel drawn to a particular shape or sensation when touched.
A great place to start is by finding some of the more well known crystals and spending time with them. This is not to say you should find these ones first, if you feel drawn to others there is absolutely a reason for it. Only that these ones are easy to find and low cost.
Clear Quartz: Useful for so many circumstances and tasks. Clear Quartz points help to generate energy inwards or outwards, placing other crystals in a Clear Quartz geode (sometimes called a Calcite geode) will cleanse it and Quartz pieces can be placed on tarot decks to restore energy. This is because Clear Quartz attunes its energy to the specific person or task, regulating energy and returning it to a healthful state.

Rose Quartz: It is likely you have pursued crystals because you are currently experiencing some hardships, or you are undergoing a transformative process. Rose Quartz is a stone of loving energy and regardless of your circumstance, will help to balance your emotions, support your endeavours and remove impurities from your system. It teaches you unconditional love for yourself and others. It also teaches you forgiveness of past actions, both your own and others.

Smokey Quartz: I went over Smokey Quartz’s application in my last post stating “Smokey Quartz relaxes the physical body and sends our energy back to the Earth through the base and earth chakras, planting us like trees. It is warm and comforting, de-stressing and untangling thoughts, slowing down the mind and strengthening the back.”
Smokey Quartz points can be used to draw energy in and remove toxic energy from the body, pointing the piece in the direction you wish to project its energy. (I have a number of pieces scattered around my home to keep the energy grounded and comforting)

Amethyst: Amethyst is likely to be the most commonly found and owned crystal. It is a wonderful healer and amplifier of energy. Amethyst in any form and any variety will provide you with any number of properties. It helps to strengthen the physical and energetic body, it realigns chakras, balances the nervous system and relieves tension in the body. Wearing Amethyst also strengthens the Third Eye chakra, this is very helpful to navigate though life’s challenges.

Citrine: The stone of wealth and abundance carrying the energy of the sun. A beautiful stone to help lift your mood and enhance the energy of a space. Natural Citrine is darker in colour, a more subtle energy compared to its heat treated sibling which can often be bright orange or yellow. Keep Citrine in the furthest left corner from your door (your wealth corner) for abundance in all forms or carry Citrine to promote a more joyful life.
