If I can do it, you can do it too.

Something that we definitely all have, but something so often forgotten. Something that has to be trained, maintained, and appreciated. Something subjectively measured by the individual practicing it, but is ultimately, a state of mind.

Self-control is the ability to withhold from something in the current time, in order to benefit oneself in the future. This involves regulating ones behaviour or emotions, to reach a specific goal. For example, being able to abstain from eating for a period of time (fasting), allows the body to take a break from processing food and instead work towards healing itself. Or being able to remove yourself from toxic relationships, will in the long-term, ensure clarity of decisiveness and peace of mind. These actions require a certain level of willpower and can only be obtained through practice.

It is easy to choose the path of least resistance, to eat poorly, to buy unsustainable items, to remain stuck in cyclical patterns of behaviour because it is what is known, it is what is comfortable. Unfortunately, nothing new can be found in comfort, nothing great ever came from those who said “not today”. Only those who choose the hard road, to take on the challenge and be vulnerable, will learn about their weaknesses. And by learning humbly where they are faulting, they can repair themselves stronger than before. Kintsugi.

We all want something. We all have ideas about completing that one task that we know will make us feel better afterwards, yet so often we choose not to follow through. Humans are brilliant, we can make excuses for anything, we can justify anything; “it’s ok because…”. When will your time come? When will you decide you’ve had enough and take action towards making yourself better than you already are?

Luckily, something pushes us towards discovering this willpower, every time we make good choices, we feel the positive energy benefitting us. The further along this path is travelled, the quicker we are able to noticing when something is unbalanced. With less negativity concerning us, we are better able to decipher what is causing the problem. And the solution is so simple, just stop doing it.

Stop doing what is making you sad, angry, guilty. Stop allowing yourself to sway from peace, joy and harmony. Stop welcoming negative energy into your life. If someone tries to take peace from you, simply don’t allow them. All you have to do is choose not to let it bother you. Choose not to welcome it into your energetic field. Be firm but kind. Then when you stop allowing others to sway you from joy, stop allowing yourself too.

Life is an experience. Make it an enjoyable one.

If I can do it, so can you.
